TB/ TST Testing

A TST (Tuberculin skin test) is a requirement for most of the Northern College Health Sciences programs prior to student placement opportunities.

The “Mantoux” skin test is a test to check if a person has been exposed to the TB bacteria. Once you have had the first step, you will be asked to return within 2 or 3 days to have a trained health care worker look for a reaction on the arm where the liquid was injected.   If you miss your reading appointment you will be charged a $25.00 fee to be paid before being able to book again.

A two-step TST should be performed if subsequent TSTs will be conducted in the future (e.g., among health care workers). The two-step protocol needs to be performed once only and if properly performed and documented, it never needs to be repeated. Any subsequent TST can be one step, regardless of how long it has been since the last test. This test is available by appointment only.  Please call to book your appointment.
